University receives NIH grant for autism research

The University of Louisville received a $900,000 National Institutes of Health grant, to test a new procedure for treating autism.

Two cards go first-round in NBA Draft

Terrance Williams and Earl Clark were both selected in the first-round of the NBA draft Thursday night.  Williams was the 11th overall pick, going to the New Jersey Nets, while Clark was the 14th overall pick, signing with the Phoenix Suns.

Man charged for Pitino extortion attempt

Lester Goetzinger was charged in a federal court with aiding and abbeting Karen Sypher in her alleged attempt to extort U of L head basektball coach Rick Pitino.
 

U of L installs eco-friendly garbage can

The university has installed a new solar-powered trash recepticle on campus.

Tuition will increase by 5 percent

The University of Louisville Board of Trustees voted to raise tuition another 5 percent next year, and to freeze the pay of university faculty.

Ralph Willard named associate head coach

Former Holy Cross head coach Ralph Willard was name associate head coach at the University of Louisville Wednesday.  Willard coached under U of L head coach Rick Pitino at the New York Knicks, and also at the University of Kentucky.

Cards fall to Cal State Fullerton

The University of Louisville baseball team's season ended Saturday in California, as the Cards lost to Cal State Fullerton 11-2. 

Campus crime alerts

The University of Louisville has sent out two crime notifications to its student body in the past week.  The first, sent out last Tuesday, regarded a robbery outside the Ekstrom Library.  The second, e-mailed today, said that a man on a bicycle tried to grab a female student's purse as she walked down Cardinal Boulevard.

The University of Louisville baseball team beat Vanderbilt 5-3 Monday night to advance to the super regionals.

No.12 U of L falls to Vanderbilt, will play elimination game Monday

With a chance to advance to a NCAA Super Regional, the No. 12 Cardinals were unable to defeat the Vanderbilt Commodores Sunday night at Jim Patterson Stadium, ending their seven game home winning streak.

Cards earn three bids to track and field Championship

The University of Louisville men's and women's track and field teams earned three automatic bids to the NCAA Championships on day one and collected three additional automatic bids for a total of six to the NCAA Championships on the final day of the 2009 NCAA Mideast Regionals held at Cardinal Park.

Taking precautions, being preventive, not panic; best prescription

What exactly is a “pandemic?”  Well, according to many sources, including an every-day dictionary, a pandemic refers to a world-wide spread of an infectious disease; a flu that reaches a wide geographical area by crossing borders. It does not refer to the seriousness of the disease or death rate.

During a recent visit to the Digital Media Suite portion of the REACH computer lab. Sumalatha Santapuram, who sometimes goes by Suma, was kind enough to not only welcome me into her office space but allowed me to pick her brain for readers, as well. Santapuram told how she traveled to the city of Louisville from India because of this university’s reputation in the field of engineering.

Busting

Campus bursting at the seams, and there is no end in sight

The University of Louisville is short on space, and the problem keeps getting worse.  According to the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education, U of L has a 68 percent deficit in classroom space, by fat the largest deficit among Kentucky’s comprehensive state universities.

Fees

It’s your money: student fees

Every semester, full time students pay $202 of bundled student fees with their tuition. Since they are bundled with tuition, man students do not even realize they are paying them.
The Student Services Fee funds the intramurals staff and facilities, the student activities staff, and the disability resource center.
